Loosely inspired by poster art, the identity for The French Exit takes cues from the graphic language of the New Wave cinema era. For the logotype we reworked Tom Carnase and Herb Lubalin’s Busorama (1970), retaining its exaggerated curves and pairing this with a direct nod to Jacques Tati’s Mon Oncle (1958) in an icon that echoes the film’s playful choreography of space and character.
The brand balances graphic boldness with restraint, siting alongside Tamsin Johnson’s interior language of glossy surfaces, dark timber, soft tan leather, stained glass and buttercream tones, anchored by an imported bar that grounds the room in a sense of place and ritual.
Together, the identity and interior build a contemporary interpretation of the Parisian bistro, where nostalgia is reframed, and atmosphere is constructed through detail, texture and light.
